Sadhguru speaks about the book Mystic’s Musings, and how it is a powerful yantra.
Sadhguru: In certain parts of the book, the meaning of the words are not important. It is like a yantra, it functions by itself. You could experiment like this with different parts. Whatever impacts you most – not intellectually – when you read a certain thing, maybe you have goose pimples on your body – take that part and read it a few times. Keep it in your mind. Ask someone else who has not read the book to hold the book between their hands and just sit. They may be able to just repeat the passage that you read without opening the book, because certain parts of the book are like a yantra. Many books are made like this to some extent. One book in the world which is 100% yantra is the Patanjali yoga sutras. You don’t have to understand the meaning of it because they don’t mean much logically, but experientially it is in the form of a yantra.
The yoga sutras are probably the greatest document on life and the most uninteresting book on the planet.
Patanjali wrote it like this intentionally because the idea is that this is a formula to open up life. He did not want it to become a philosophy. And his mastery over language was such that he wrote it in the form of formulas, in such a way that no scholar would ever be interested in it. It is most uninteresting but if one sutra becomes a reality within you, it will explode you into a completely new dimension of experience. If you read one and make it true in your life, that’s all. You don’t have to read all the two hundred sutras.
Patanjali created the yoga sutras like this. You don’t have to know the language. You can just do brail on yoga sutras because just touching it with your fingers still does things to you. Some parts of Mystic’s Musings are made like that just for fun.
The book doesn’t teach anything. The book doesn’t say anything conclusively but it makes you look at things which are beyond your present level of experience...
How do you make use of this book? This book is not for you to make fantastic conclusions. This book is to make you so thirsty that you must seek in a huge way. If you read it with the right perspective, definitely it will inspire you to seek. The book doesn’t teach anything. The book doesn’t say anything conclusively but it makes you look at things which are beyond your present level of experience so that a huge inspiration or a huge longing to seek arises within you. If you nurture this longing, that is the best way to make use of the book.
Not for the faint-hearted, this book deftly guides us with answers about reality that transcend our fears, angers, hopes, and struggles. Sadhguru keeps us teetering on the edge of logic and captivates us with his answers to questions relating to life, death, rebirth, suffering, karma, and the journey of the Self.
