Celebrating Earth Day with Purpose

As the world faces increasing environmental challenges, from soil degradation to water scarcity, conscious and sustained efforts are needed to reverse the damage. For Isha Foundation, Earth Day is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to ecological restoration and deepen our efforts to raise awareness and drive change through the Save Soil movement and hands-on local initiatives.

Save Soil: Three Years Since the Journey

Over the last three decades, Save Soil has implemented a holistic strategy for soil revitalization through scalable farmer-driven projects, policy advocacy, and citizen awareness campaigns.

On March 21, 2022, Sadhguru embarked on an arduous 100-day, 30,000 km lone motorcycle journey across 27 countries to raise awareness about the global soil crisis. This journey brought global attention to the urgent need to restore and safeguard our planet's most fundamental resource: soil.

The momentum continues to grow…

Save Soil Day: Mayor Proclamation 2025

To commemorate this journey, cities across North America are recognizing March 21 as Save Soil Day. As of today, over 190 cities have officially proclaimed this day, including: Atlanta, GA, West Hollywood, CA, Seattle, WA, Phoenix, AZ, Philadelphia, PA, Ottawa, Canada and more.

This effort reflects the increasing recognition by local governments of the need to address soil degradation and support sustainable land practices.

Cultivating Change: Save Soil Movie Event

On Earth Day, Sadhguru joined the film cast, filmmakers, and environmental advocates behind documentaries Common Ground and Kiss the Ground in an exclusive live Q&A on their YouTube channel. The discussion included Sadhguru, Rosario Dawson, Woody Harrelson, Ian Somerhalder, Gabe Brown, Dr. Mark Hyman, Jason Mraz, Amy Smart, Josh Tickell, and Rebecca Tickell. The conversation rallied a global audience around the message that restoring our planet begins from the ground up.

In March 2025, the Save Soil movement also launched a global campaign titled Cultivating Change: Save Soil Movie Event. Globally, 50 events were hosted in countries such as Austria, Bulgaria, France, Bahrain, UAE, Qatar, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Canada, and USA.

Earth Day at the Isha Institute of Inner-sciences

At the Isha Institute of Inner-sciences in Tennessee, Earth Day was marked by a series of meaningful initiatives focused on ecological restoration and community involvement.

Tree Planting

Volunteers and residents came together to plant a variety of trees across the campus. These efforts contribute not only to a greener landscape but also to the long-term health of the ecosystem.

River Cleanup at Rock Island State Park

Children from the Isha school and residents from Isha Institute joined hands for a river cleanup project at Rock Island State Park. Together, they removed debris from the riverside, helping restore the area to its natural beauty and supporting the health of local aquatic life.

Screening of Common Ground

As part of the global Cultivating Change campaign, the institute hosted a public screening of Common Ground, followed by a reflective community conversation on practical steps toward regenerative living.

Earth Meditation

In the stillness of the evening, participants gathered for a guided Earth Meditation — an opportunity to connect inwardly and express gratitude to the Earth. This meditative offering emphasized the sacred relationship between the human system and the planet that nourishes it.

#PoweredBySoil: A Digital Celebration of Earth Day

As part of Earth Day's digital initiatives, Isha launched the global #PoweredBySoil campaign under the Earth Day 2025 theme "Our Power, Our Planet." This campaign celebrates soil as the true powerhouse of our planet — the invisible force behind every meal we eat.

In days leading up to Earth Day, people around the world joined in by sharing photos of their meals on social media with the hashtag #PoweredBySoil, honoring the rich, nourishing connection between healthy soil and the food on our plates.

This digital movement served as a joyful reminder that every bite we take is made possible by vibrant, living soil — and that it is time we protect and cherish it.

Through digital, mass media, and community engagements, the Save Soil movement’s awareness campaigns have reached over 4.1 billion people globally, creating a groundswell of support for soil-friendly policies and practices.

Furthering the Conversation in the Regenerative Ag Space

Save Soil at SXSW

This March, Save Soil was honored to participate in Food Tank’s annual “All Things Food” SXSW Summit. Representing the movement on the panel “Digging Deeper: The Importance of Soil,” it brought attention to the critical link between soil health, food systems, and human wellbeing. Nearly 200 attendees listened closely as the discussion emphasized the urgent need to raise awareness and support farmers in transitioning to regenerative agricultural practices.

Participation at Cultivation: A Conversation on Regenerative Ag

In Boulder, CO, a vibrant gathering of over 100 passionate and influential individuals came together to hear from organizations driving change in the regenerative agriculture space — and Save Soil stood at the heart of the conversation.

A Continuing Commitment

Through large-scale awareness campaigns like Save Soil and grassroots activities at local centers, Isha Foundation remains deeply committed to environmental sustainability.

Sadhguru reminds us:
"We are the environment. We are an extension of this earth. The ingredients of life are packed into the Air that we breathe, Water that we drink, Sunlight and Soil. Save Soil."

This Earth Day, you are invited to join the movement in whatever way you can — plant a tree, organize a screening, request a proclamation, or simply take a moment to sit with the Earth in gratitude. Together, let us make every day an Earth Day.
