Project GreenHands plans to raise funds to plant 100,000 trees this year as a part of its World Environment Day Campaign. The campaign is part of a PGH agro-forestry project where sustainable trees like timber, fodder and fruit trees are given to farmers to nourish and nurture. The agro-forestry project is a proven model, and last year, PGH raised funds for 50,000 trees. PGH wishes to double that number this year.

GreenHands volunteers across India are taking up the campaign and are coming up with innovative ideas to promote environmental awareness.

L&T Corporate Campaign

L&T Construction, Chennai has agreed to launch an Environment Day campaign on June 5th in their company. L&T was PGH’s biggest corporate partner last year with 5,500 trees and they will look to better that contribution this year.

Cloth bags for PGH!

To promote Project GreenHands, volunteers Raghavan and Ravi have designed and printed cloth bags that will carry information about GreenHands. Raghavan shares, “I have always wanted to reach out to lots of people and create awareness about the project. So when someone is donating for a tree, I tell them about this cloth bag that will help replace the use of plastic carry bags. On Sunday, I went for a checkup with my doctor and I told him about the tree planting campaign. He immediately donated for 5 trees and told me he would buy 200 cloth bags for his use in the clinic. My wish is that many more Greenies like us join hands to take this up across India.”  If you would like to purchase the cloth bags, or be an active campaigner like Raghavan, contact Raghavan at: treesthetreasuregmailcom

Mumbai

Mumbai has been buzzing since the day PGH first introduced the campaign. There has been a wonderful response from the volunteers who have been reaching out to many corporates to introduce the campaign. BPCL, HSBC, Orchid hotels, Edenred, and NYK Line are a few of the corporates supporting the campaign in different ways. Edelweiss, one of India’s leading diversified financial services group has also committed to launch the campaign in their company on June 5th, and Radio Mirchi Mumbai will promote the campaign with a 30-second advertisement that will be played throughout the day on World Environment Day.

Suteja, a volunteer who was at the company Open Text to talk about the campaign shares, “There was a wonderful response from the employees. 280 trees were sponsored in just 2 hours.” Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., from Secunderabad plans to plant trees on behalf of their customers. The Hyderabad volunteers have also created a collective campaign page with a target of 5,000 trees.
