T
welve years ago, today on June 24th, Sadhguru consecrated and offered the Dhyanalinga to the world. For the millions of people who have been touched by the Grace of the Dhyanalinga, life has never been the same. Every year, the Isha Yoga Center celebrates this day to commemorate this momentous event. The Dhyanalinga is a meditative possibility available to all irrespective of religion or belief systems. In keeping with this, the celebrations are an ensemble of chants from various traditions across the world. Throughout the day, Aum Namashivaya, Buddhist, Christian, Gurubani, Hindu, Muslim, and Sufi chants reverberate within the usually silent dome of the Dhyanalinga.

A resident at the ashram speaks in awe of the unusual phenomenon of sound filling the Dhyanalinga dome, “Usually when I walk in to the Dhyanalinga, the silence just overwhelms and seeps right into me so I don’t really associate the Dhyanalinga with sound. And because of my busy work schedule, it has been a while since I attended either Nadha Aradhana or Pancha Bhoota Aradhana. So today when I walked in to this space and heard Aum Namahshivaya, it was a little unsettling. But after I had been there about 5 minutes, I just lost myself in the chant. It was not that I got caught up in the syllables or the rhythm. Rather it was more like I just dissolved into the very vibration of it. I don’t really have the adjectives to describe the beauty of the experience.”

This year, an added treat is in store for the music lovers. A concert has been organized from 8 PM near Nandi in front of the Dhyanalinga. The Samskriti children will begin the musical festival and will be followed by the ever-popular Sounds of Isha. After a brief LCD show, Grammy Award winning Ghatam maestro Shri Vikku Vinayakram and his son Shri Mahesh Vinayakram will regale the audience with their compositions.

Sadhguru says, “The whole existence is a complex amalgamation of sounds.”

So it is only appropriate that the sacred space of the Dhyanalinga resonates with such wonderful sounds throughout this auspicious day.
