Eppadi Thaan – Sound’s of Isha’s New Release
Here’s Sounds of Isha’s latest, “Eppadi Thaan…”, a devotional song by Oothukadu Venkata Subbaiyar, about Krishna.
“Devotion is a dimension that will allow you to sail across even if you do not know the way.” – Sadhguru
“Eppadi Thaan…” was written by Oothukadu Venkata Subbaiyar, and looks at life from the perspective of a devotee (of Krishna, in this song).
The song describes how once a person is devout, all they see is sweetness around them. The buzzing of bees becomes a song, Krishna’s mischief become endearing pranks, and his many heroics become awe-inspiring legends. Such is the sweetness of devotion that it transform’s the devotees experience of life in powerful ways.
Devotion has been an important part of spiritual processes in India. Stories of Radhe Krishna, Mira Bhai, and the Nayanmaars have been told and retold for centuries, and many devotees are seen as no different than the Divine.
Sadhguru says, “Devotion is not an act; it is not directed towards something or the other; the object of devotion is immaterial. It is just that with devotion, you have dissolved all the resistance in you so that the divine can transpire like breath. The divine is not an entity sitting up there; it is a living force in every moment of your life.”

How did you manage to open my heart and enslave me – Oh Swamy!
Isai tharum kuzhalodu kundalam olira
Ivai tharum suvaiyodu vandinam murala
The flute sings its melodies, the earrings dazzle
Among all this sweetness, the bees sing their songs
Oppuyar illadha uthamane – oru
Uraga nadam aadum vithagane
The pure person beyond compare
He who danced atop a snake
Ulagirundha vaay thirandha padiyo
Alladhu uralodu pinaindhu irundha padiyo
He who contained the world within himself
(Referring to the incident where his mother Yashoda sees the world in his mouth)
He who was tied to the mortar
veliyil solla manam thulludhe
solla venum venum endra aasai kolludhe
The heart is unable to contain this emotion within
The heart desires to express itself
kulir oli mugam kandu naani naani – un

I feel shy looking at your cool, bright face
And am pushed towards your fresh lotus feet
Ini oru ulagam unai thavira yenak oru sugam illai yena thandhavaa
Thani oru mudi mel ilamayil nadi tharu thogai aniya thandhavaa
He who left me no comfort anywhere, except in him
He who wears a peacock feather on his head
Uri yeri kalavaadi thozharodu unakenakena thindravaa
Oorariyum munbu annaiyidam sendru ondrum ariyaadu nindravaa
He who stole butter from the pots and shared it with his friends
And ran up to his mother and stood innocently before complaints reached her
