Accenture Execs Learn the Art of Inner Management
From July 10-13, Isha Yoga Center had the pleasure of hosting a group of Managing Directors and Zonal Directors from the Accenture Consulting Group at a Corporate Retreat Program. Most of this group of twenty-seven had never done yoga before and probably did not know what to expect but they didn’t let that dampen their enthusiasm. They came to each session ready and eager to learn what was being offered. Although it was difficult for them to tear themselves away from their conference calls and business dealings during the breaks, once they were in the hall, they were totally involved.
The action wasn’t limited to the hall. The group went on a hike outside the ashram and played a good round of games. All of them were so involved and joyful during the games that they wanted to come back later in the day to play some more during their break. They were also inspired by Project GreenHands – Isha’s environmental initiative and planned to get together at Accenture to start their own tree planting campaign.
On the second day, the group had a sathsang with Sadhguru. Sadhguru spoke about the importance of leaders focusing on their inner situation first because every decision they make affects hundreds if not thousands of people. He answered many questions from the group and dealt with topics like handling difficult co-workers and how to bring the best out of a group. Sadhguru addressed every question with his usual wit and wisdom that was practical and useful for all the attendees.
The group also learnt several powerful yogic practices including Upayoga and Surya Shakti. They also learnt Isha Kriya – a simple but potent meditation, which brought a certain calmness to them. During the yoga sessions that followed, the group no longer needed to be told to keep their eyes closed. They would naturally sit and meditate as if they had been doing it for years.
At the end of the program, many of the managers expressed their commitment to continue with the practices and hoped to benefit from them both physically and mentally. One participant shared how nice it was to not worry about checking email or scheduling meetings for a few days. Another had a 7AM flight to catch so he came in early on the final morning to make sure he was doing the practices correctly. Some expressed interest in pursuing this further and coming back to take the Inner Engineering class. Though they were only here for a short few days, they were truly transformed by the program and no doubt will reap the benefits for years to come.
