An Evening with the Elite of LA

Peter and Tara Guber’s sprawling Bel Air property looked like it had been built for a presence like Sadhguru’s. Surrounded by lush greenery and a breathtaking view of Los Angeles, the Gubers’ winding driveway was lined with towering trees which would give a warm welcome to the Mystic.

Tara Guber, the host of the evening, has long been involved in the yoga world, and introduced one of the first full-time yoga programs into public schools around the world. Her husband Peter, the Chairman and CEO of Mandalay Entertainment and co-owner of the LA Dodgers and Golden State Warriors, also keeps yoga as a cornerstone in his life.

Blake Mycoskie, Sadhguru’s partner in conversation, is a socially-conscious entrepreneur, best known for founding TOMS Shoes, which has expanded to include TOMS eyewear. Through their One for One model, TOMS delivers a pair of free shoes or eyewear to a child in need for every sale of the related product.

The 70+ guests began rolling in at 6pm, chatting with familiar faces and Isha volunteers while they eagerly anticipated the 7pm conversation. Always on time, Sadhguru arrived at 6:15pm, slowly making his way up to the beautiful home. Heads began to turn and the energy of the whole estate was simply amplified. Once inside, he planted himself in the middle of the foyer, becoming fully available to all. One by one, guests, many of whom made up LA’s elite, began approaching Sadhguru with child-like grins, wanting to experience a few moments with the yogi. They walked away with even bigger smiles, looking blessed and more eager to hear what was to come.

Wowed by Wisdom

As Tara and her daughter warmly introduced the speakers, she added some thoughts on yoga, consciousness and her gratitude for her children. The evening began to feel like an intimate family gathering.

“Have you explored what life is or are you busy exploring the social situation?” Sadhguru asked the crowd, many of whom appeared to be in their 30s. “For me, the entire creation is a billion question marks…. when somebody realizes he doesn’t know a damn thing, everybody says he is a mystic… at the age of four and a half, I realized I didn’t know anything.”
