Absolutely! Volunteering opportunities are open to everyone attending the Mahashivratri celebrations.
This incredible event wouldn’t be possible without the dedication and commitment of the volunteers.
However, due to limited infrastructure at the Isha Yoga Center, volunteer dormitory accommodation cannot be provided for those arriving after 23 February 2025.
Volunteers will be accommodated in temporary dormitory facilities specially set up for Mahashivratri.
All volunteers are requested to plan accordingly.
Please refer to the FAQ below for a detailed list of items to bring. As Mahashivratri is about creating a spiritual experience for all, your understanding and flexibility are requested if there are any adjustments needed in terms of personal comfort or convenience.
No, bedding will not be provided. All volunteers are required to bring their own bedding items, including:
A yoga mat or mattress (if needed)
A bedsheet
A pillow
From December to March, the weather can be moderately cold at night and warm during the day, with temperatures ranging from 17°C (62.6°F) to 35°C (95°F). It is recommended to bring warm clothing and a blanket to stay comfortable during the nights.

The Isha Yoga Center is a secure location, with security personnel available around the clock. However, due to the large scale of the event, extra care should be taken with personal belongings. As volunteers will be staying in shared accommodation, it is recommended not to bring valuables, jewelry, or expensive electronics. To protect your belongings, carry a lock and key and make sure your bags are securely locked when not in use.
Limited charging facilities will be available in the accommodation areas. Please ensure that your mobile phone is not left unattended while charging. It is highly recommended to carry your own mobile power bank for convenience.
Volunteers are encouraged to arrive as early as two months before Mahashivratri to assist with preparations, and at the latest by 23 February, which is at least 3 days before the event. Accommodation will be available until the morning of 28 February.
Guided sadhana for Mahashivratri volunteers will commence 40 days prior to the event, starting on 17 January. Details about the guided sadhana will be shared upon your arrival.

Yes, after Mahashivratri, there will be an 11-day cultural festival, Tamil Thembu, from 27 February to 9 March. If you are volunteering for Tamil Thembu, you can stay until 11:00 AM on 16 March. You can also opt for general volunteering.

As a volunteer, you play a crucial role in how people experience Mahashivratri.
Once you have made the decision to offer yourself as a volunteer, it is strongly recommended that you see it through till the end of the event.
However, if you still wish to get a seating pass, you may inquire with the area coordinator assigned to you when you arrive.
To maintain the sanctity of the space, ensure that all clothing is modest in keeping with the local culture. Traditional Indian clothing is encouraged, and both men and women are required to cover their shoulders, upper arms, midriff, and legs up to the ankles at all times.
You can also wear western attire, which includes ankle-length pants (no capris or shorts) and long shirts that cover the upper arms.
Avoid tight clothing for both comfort and as a sign of respect for the local culture.
For Yaksha and Mahashivratri, it is encouraged to wear traditional and festive Indian attire.

The Isha Yoga Center does not have facilities or resources to care for children or minors during the program. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to participate. It is requested to arrange guardianship for children at home before you arrive.
Yes, you can bring your vehicle. However, limited parking will be available at the venue. If you would like to offer your vehicle to assist with venue preparations, you are welcome to do so.
Basic first aid will be available on-site. However, the nearest hospitals are approximately 1 hour away under normal traffic conditions.
During Mahashivratri, it may take longer to reach the hospital due to increased traffic.
