A little less than a year ago, on the full moon night of 9 October 2022, Sadhguru powerfully consecrated Naga at the Sadhguru Sannidhi in Bengaluru.
This year, 21 August 2023 marked the first Naga Panchami, a festival that celebrates the sacred serpent. The event was live streamed online.
Participants had the opportunity to make offerings to the Naga.
After welcoming everyone to the occasion, Sadhguru discussed the significance of the Naga, or serpent, in various cultures and regions. He emphasized the importance of enhancing human perception, underscoring the idea that extending our faculties takes us beyond ordinary senses, leading to a broader understanding of life.
He further explained that engaging with the Naga can aid in expanding perception and encouraged everyone to take part without imposing their own personal interpretations. Sadhguru also mentioned plans to initiate specific Naga-related yogic processes in the future. He stated that life should not be confined by societal norms or external influences, but that our internal experiences and perceptions should guide our actions.
Sadhguru opened the rituals with an Arati to the Naga.
Participants had the opportunity to experience the ancient process of Naga Mandala Pooja. This traditional ritual to receive the grace of the sacred serpent or Naga was conducted in Sadhguru’s presence by Udupi Vaidyas at the Naga Shrine.
The process included a ritual dance called Naga Mandala Nritya, which is thought to invoke the divine presence of the Nagas.
The surrounding traditional jathre, or village fair, not only offered food stalls, games, and handicraft stores, but also showcased indigenous cattle breeds and time-tested agricultural tools.
These elements of heritage and community served as a vibrant cultural backdrop for the sacred occasion.
