Yoga is a vital component of the school program and part of the daily schedule. We also observe Sadhguru’s Presence in the evening, and have students meditate before going to bed.
The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE).
The school follows an in-house curriculum and, at the same time, prepares students to appear for their respective board examinations – ICSE (10th grade) and ISC (12th grade) exams.
Isha Home School adopts a conscious approach to technology use by limiting individual screen-based gadgets. Students may periodically access shared computer labs for e-based information to supplement their learning when they do not have access to other printed formats and strictly for educational purposes. Additionally, classrooms are equipped with interactive white boards.
Isha Home School primarily conducts its instruction in English. Here are the language options:
- Junior School Level: All students are taught Hindi, Tamil, and Sanskrit.
- Middle School Level: Students have the option to choose between Hindi and Tamil as their second language.
- Senior School 1 Level: Students can choose Hindi, Tamil, or French as their second language. Additionally, Sanskrit is available as a third language option.
Tamil is not compulsory at all levels, but it is one of the language options provided to students.
Fine arts is interwoven into the curriculum. Until Class 8, students have at least 2 hours of art per week, during which they can explore a variety of creative activities including pottery, weaving, crochet, drawing, painting on various mediums, murals, and photography. From Class 9 onward, art is offered as an option for specialization at the ICSE and ISC level.
Students have the opportunity to engage in various sports such as athletics, kho kho, football, volleyball, tennis, badminton, table tennis, swimming and cricket.
They may be taken for open tournaments or those conducted by the ASISC. That said, the focus on sport in the school is on building a sense of cooperation and giving one’s best, over and above any competitive element.
Students are taken on day trips and long excursions over the course of the year. These vary depending on the segment of the school.
The oldest students of Junior School are taken on an overnight excursion in their final term.
Middle School and Senior School 1 students are taken on a long excursion once per year.
Students of the Post-10 program are taken on long excursions every term, except for their final term.
While a range of clubs are on offer each year, they may change from year to year based on faculty availability and student interest. Some of the activities that have been offered in the Middle and Senior Schools include photography, filmmaking, art studio, cooking, chess, theater, aeromodelling, video game development and machine learning.
The Post-10 program spans three years to provide students with a unique opportunity for diverse experiences, the development of a robust portfolio, and a clearer sense of their life aspirations, enabling them to embark on a well-defined path at a young age.
This extended duration allows us to cover the ISC syllabus over three years instead of the traditional two while accommodating various enriching activities such as internships, Bharat Darshan, and immersive volunteering in Isha Foundation initiatives. Additionally, it includes essential foundation skill modules like public speaking, home repairs, basics of finance, and survival cooking.
There is no 2-year option. In order to fulfill the stated objectives and ensure due attention is given to the various components of the program, three years are required.
