How it all began:
In January 2005, six young children whose parents resided at the Isha Yoga Center wrote heartfelt letters to Sadhguru expressing their desire for him to establish a school for their education. They made plans of how their school would look and sent him drawings of their dream school. An ideal, child-friendly school set amidst picturesque surroundings, functioning mostly outdoors, had been Sadhguru's dream for years. But now, moved by the yearning of these little hearts, Sadhguru announced the establishment of the Isha Home School from that academic year. Word quickly spread to neighboring areas, resulting in a flood of inquiries and admission requests. On 15 June 2005, the school's doors opened, welcoming 74 young lives to embark on this remarkable educational journey.
The school is dedicated to ensuring the child's holistic development in a home-like nurturing environment. In many ways, the school resembles the extended, large, joint families of the past, wherein each person, while retaining their individuality, is also an active part of an intimate microcosm of people from different age groups, mental make-ups, and needs.
All aspects of the school are designed to kindle the innate urge within every child to learn and know. The prime focus is not only on developing a child’s intellectual capacities but also on exploring other dimensions of life. The aim is to go beyond the information-gathering paradigm of education to creating more evolved minds and better human beings whose attitudes and outlook are about responsibility, inclusion, contribution, and constantly seeing how to make a difference around them.
The school is a harmonic blend of ancient wisdom and contemporary practice. Though global in scope and vision, the school is rooted in the rich cultural heritage of India. The school program and routines have been carefully drawn up based on the science of inner wellbeing to promote wholesome and healthy living that enables students to feel confident and self-sufficient.
