TENDERNESS

Tears of too much tenderness
Well up in my eyes
My bosom swells
Not with love nor compassion
But with tenderness
That links my being with all.

Too tender even to touch
Leave alone embrace

I need to coat myself
With a coat of bravado
Even to touch the breath of another
As to touch would be
To terminate my existence.
An embrace would erase
All that is perceived as me.

Tears of too much tenderness
Well up and my bosom swells.
