An initiative to maintain cleanliness, and preserve the natural ecology and sanctity of the sacred Velliangiri Mountains

Also known as the “Kailash of the South,” the Velliangiri Mountains have imbibed the reverberance of innumerable sages and seers, including Shiva himself, who is said to have spent time in these mountains.

THE NEED

The path to the Shiva temple atop the Seventh Hill of the Velliangiri Mountains was once a picturesque landscape. However, in recent years, it bears a trail of waste left by devotees.

 Every year, lakhs of devotees visit the temple, leaving litter on the premises and forest paths, posing an environmental risk. Cleanliness drives are imperative to preserve the pristine environment of the hills and their sanctity.

THE SOLUTION

To keep the Velliangiri Mountains clean, protect the natural ecology, uphold their sanctity, and raise environmental awareness, Thenkailaya Bakthi Peravai conducts an annual cleaning drive.
