Kalabhairava Karma can be done within a certain period of time after someone’s death. However, another process called Kalabhairava Shanti can be done any time after death.
“We would like people to live blissfully. If they don’t live blissfully, then at least they should die peacefully. If they don’t even do that, we want to do something for them after their death.”
– Sadhguru
Linga Bhairavi is used as the energy base to conduct certain processes for the deceased.
A process is conducted at Linga Bhairavi, followed by a process at the Nirkaya Sthanam (a specially dedicated pond at Isha Yoga Center). Prasadam of ash from the process is then prepared, offered to Devi, and given to the family. If the family is not present, the prasadam can be couriered within India.
A photo of the deceased (while they were alive)
A clothing item (except undergarments, saris, and clothes worn at the time of death)
A blood relative of the deceased should attend the process, whenever possible.
Death by Natural Causes
Above 50 years of age – within 14 days of the demise
Below 50 years of age – within 48 days
Above 84 years (or 1008 full moons) – any time after death
Unnatural Death
(Death due to sickness, suicide, accidents or homicide)
Above 33 years of age – within 48 days
Below 33 years of age – within 90 days
Kalabhairava Karma can also be performed for stillbirths or abortions (after 48 days of pregnancy).
Photo of the mother taken during that pregnancy is required.
The process is meant to dissolve the runanubandha between blood relatives for both the living and the dead.
You can perform your family rituals even after performing the Kalabhairava Karma.
It is better to have a piece of cloth from a used shirt of the deceased for the process.
Death rituals are not needed for a child aborted within 48 days of pregnancy.
You can play the Shambho or Brahmananda Swaroopa chant. Sadhguru's photo can be kept near them and a ghee or sesame oil lamp can be lit.
Yes, they can make use of the ash prasadam.
Yes, women can perform or attend the process. But women who are pregnant or on their menstrual cycle should not attend the process as it is not conducive for their wellbeing.
You can register on behalf of another family but only family members of the departed can perform the karma. If you wish to be there as a guest, you can do so.
After registration, you will receive a confirmation email with guidelines to help orient you.
We are currently unable to offer these rituals outside the countries where Linga Bhairavi abodes are located. Registration for devotees from other regions is only available if they are physically at Linga Bhairavi. For further questions, please write to us at info.nepal@isha.sadhguru.org
Since this is a one-step registration process, if you were unable to complete the payment in the first attempt, you will need to fill up the registration form again. We recommended that you register and make the payment from a desktop or a laptop.
If you are not able to register even after a few attempts, we recommend using an alternate browser and email ID, and also clearing the page history / caches.
The ash prasadam has to be applied on the forehead by the blood relatives only, and can be used daily. After some time, it may dry up. In such cases, add ghee or heated butter to it and apply on the forehead. It can be kept in a pooja room or any sacred space. If you wish to stop using the ash prasadam, you can leave it in running water, like a river or sea.
Yes, prasadam can be couriered to the name and address provided when registering for the offering.
At this time, prasadam courier services are available only within the country where the offering is made.
