Guru Purnima 2024 at Isha: A Transformative Day of Devotion and Spiritual Growth

“Over 15,000 years ago, Adiyogi – the Adi Guru – offered his Knowing to Humanity that led to a dimensional change in the way people perceive and understand the Existence and the Source of Creation. He made himself a bridge between an individual piece of creation and the ultimate source of creation. It is my wish & my blessing that you use the Bridge to access The Source. Blessings. -Sg”

Guru Purnima marks the sacred day when Adiyogi transformed himself from the first Yogi into the first Guru and began transmitting the Yogic sciences to his first seven disciples, the Saptarishis. This opened up a completely new understanding of existence, the human system, and spiritual evolution.

The celebrations, which fell on 21 July this year, at the Isha Yoga Center commenced early with Guru Pooja and Yogic sadhana. Participants of a first-of-its-kind program engaged in a structured sadhana designed to make them more receptive to grace.

Sadhguru emphasized in the quote of the day, “Guru Purnima is not just a celebration – it is a commitment to Evolve. How you experience your Life is determined by you. May you realize Ultimate Liberation. Guru’s Grace is upon you.”

On this special occasion, devotees got to offer Kailash Teerth and Linga Jyoti to Dhyanalinga, the highest possible manifestation of the Divine and a living Guru.

Amidst the monsoon rains, traditional decor adorned the Isha Yoga Center, and joyful faces were seen everywhere, reflecting the atmosphere of collective devotion and celebration.

Isha brahmacharis offered a special damaru seva, a daily practice at the Yoga Center involving drums, aimed at keeping the space vibrant. This seva added to the sanctity and energy of the day.

In a display of communal reverence, over a hundred devotees from surrounding villages offered pots of milk to Dhyanalinga, exemplifying the devotion that Guru Purnima inspires.

During the evening celebrations, Sounds of Isha offered a series of devotional chants and songs, creating an enveloping wave of devotion that swept through Adiyogi Alayam. While some of the offerings, such as “Sharanam Smaranam,” evoked a deep sense of devotion in people’s hearts, others, like “Shiva Shiva” brought everyone to their feet.

As night fell, program participants had the distinct opportunity to deepen their receptivity and experience of these sacred spaces through a unique bhuta shuddhi process at the Teerthakunds (energized water bodies) and a special midnight Nada Aradhana.

The sense of celebration and devotion also resonated in the Guru Purnima festivities at Sadhguru Sannidhi in Bengaluru.

Guru Purnima brought together individuals from all walks of life to celebrate, evolve, and connect deeply with the knowing of Adiyogi through a vibrant array of processes and offerings.
