Discover why Linga Bhairavi in Nepal has a special quality, as Sadhguru disclosed during her consecration. Learn about the power of the divine feminine, a dimension beyond logic, and why this is exactly what we need in the world today to enhance life and experience its magic.
Sadhguru: Right now, this temple here in Kathmandu… This region is not new to Devi temples; there are many of them, but most of them were established a long time ago. These ancient temples are consecrated in a certain way, which needs regular offerings and maintenance. In that sense, Linga Bhairavi is a modern woman; she needs less maintenance because that is how she is made.
She is built of mercury, which is, in a way, the most resilient material on the planet, and we have solidified it so that she does not hop around. It went through a very intense process over the last three months or so to get it to where it is; with mainly myself, and also some women from India and Nepal, contributing to making it happen.
The main yantra is in the form of a triangle that is full of solidified mercury.
There is another aspect to this: Here, unlike the other Bhairavis we have established, the Third Eye is specially consecrated, so she is far more intense than compassionate. Because people in Nepal are already the Devi type – devotion comes quite easy in the culture. You have been wallowing in love and compassion a little too much in Nepal; so I feel you need a different level of intensity that sets you on fire.
Devi can be run on pure emotion, which is beautiful, poetic, and wonderful in its own way. Poetry can enamor, enthrall, and even entertain you, but it does not deliver you. So, there is another dimension to this particular form of Devi – we have strengthened the Third Eye in a big way. She drives toward mukti rather than just material wellbeing. Both aspects are done with solidified mercury.
A lot of work has gone into it; it was done in a very powerful shrine at the Isha Yoga Center.
One more aspect is the five kalashams on top, which are empowered with solidified mercury.
Devi is consecrated with Muladhara, Swadhisthana, Manipura, and half an Anahata. So, she is three and a half chakras. No love; only compassion.
When I say “feminine,” I am not talking about female. Female is a gender; feminine is a dimension. There is no life without these two dimensions of masculine and feminine; everything that is physical in the universe is a dance between polarities.
This is the best time to bring back the feminine because the power of man’s muscle does not mean much anymore. Our survival is better taken care of than ever before in the history of humanity. Our food, transportation, and communication are organized better than ever before. This is the time to build a genuine civilization, which will not happen without the rise of the feminine. The masculine only thinks of conquest. The feminine is an embrace.
The fundamental sound that describes the feminine is ri. Ri means movement, inclusiveness, and embrace. This is the nature of the feminine. If you want to look at creation in terms of masculine and feminine, then everything that is material is masculine. That which holds this material in place is feminine. That which is beyond, we refer to as “Shiva,” which is neither masculine nor feminine but beyond both.
The word “Devi” comes from div. Div means space. Space is that which holds all the material in the universe. There are planets, stars, and galaxies, but they are still minor happenings. The largest thing that is happening here is space. But most people miss it because our visual apparatus is made in such a way that we see only that which stops light. But if the air that you do not see did not exist even for a moment, you would not be able to live.
So, what you cannot see is what sustains your life here right now. And the space that you cannot see is what holds everything together. The masculine and the feminine are not two opposites. They are two dimensions that are complementary to each other. There is no way one can exist without the other. Without the masculine, there shall be no feminine. Without the feminine, there shall be no masculine.
Establishing or enshrining the divine feminine is very important now in the 21st century. Because though our survival is better organized than ever before, we keep raising the bar of survival. This is the nature of the masculine.
Everyone should do this: Fix your idea of survival in life, by your own standards. After that, do something that you genuinely care for. If you do not define survival by your own standards, you will become a slave for the rest of your life, endlessly running after this and that.
In my opinion, in our education systems, as much significance should be given to music, aesthetics, and various other arts as we are giving to mathematics, science, and other studies. Only then will we have a balanced civilization. Otherwise, everyone is on a rampage. You call it career or business – I call it rampage because that is what is happening in the end.
If you do not believe me, ask all the other creatures. In the last 25 years of economic development, what has happened to their lives? They will say it is not just rampage but genocide. People think, “Let’s kill the ants, sparrows, grasshoppers, worms, and insects. We can live without them.” No, that is what we need to understand.
You need the feminine to understand that you cannot live without the other creatures. They can very well live without you. You cannot live without them because what you think is a disgusting worm is continuously working for your wellbeing. So, what we logically conclude and the way life is are two different things.
The significance of the feminine is that your experience of life can transcend the limitations of logic. Logic is only useful for survival. After being here for thousands of years and having all this knowledge of sciences and physical reality, and being able to do so many things in the world that we never imagined possible a hundred years ago, in spite of that, people are more desperate than ever before. This is because the bar of survival is constantly being raised.
Once you put your survival instinct to rest, naturally, the feminine will dominate within you. “I’m a man; if the feminine dominates, will I become a pansy?” No, you will become fantastic.
You have seen Adiyogi, a super-man. One half of him is woman. He is not a skewed man but absolute balance. Both the masculine and feminine are playing within you right now. If you kill one and keep the other, you will be a skewed human being. No matter what happens in your life, you will always seem to be imbalanced.
If you want the feminine to manifest within you, if you want a dimension within you that is beyond logic, which is magical for no reason, not to impress you, but simply the way it is; if you want that in your life, you must fix what survival is for you. Beyond that, you are invested in the magic of life. There is nothing here which is not magical.
With Bhairavi here, how you live and experience your life should not be determined by your parentage, social influences, and philosophies, but by the life process. If you are alive to life, it will happen one way. If you just have ideas about life, it will happen another way; life will not happen; psychological realities will be misunderstood as life.
The purpose of Devi is to become sensitive to life, not to society, ideologies, philosophies, or scriptures. Life is speaking every moment, but no one is listening because there is so much noise here and your phones keep pinging. To leave without ever experiencing the nature of your own existence is the worst crime. You have the majority with you, but that does not make it right.
You must make up your mind: Are you here to experience life, or to prove some nonsense to someone around you? Everything in your life is valuable only because you are alive. Establishing Devi is an important part of that; there will be scientifically structured processes here for every aspect of life from conception to death and beyond.
This is not just about being healthy, peaceful, and joyful – this is about enhancing life. You do not have to do anything to be significant. The very way the life that you are is becomes significant, not because of what you think of yourself, but because it is enhanced. This is what it is about: How much life have you imbibed?
Keeping your body healthy, keeping your mind peaceful, joyful, and blissful means you have a physiology and psychology that facilitates life, but life still needs to happen. That never comes into most people’s experience because they get trapped in their own physiological and psychological processes. You have to transcend these two aspects so that you begin to experience life.
When you experience life beyond your psychological and physiological processes, then there are ways to enhance life. Devi is about that. Devi is not about being peaceful or joyful. Unfortunately, she serves all these purposes, but she is not about prosperity, money, or success. Unfortunately, she serves all that; otherwise, you will not spend a rupee on a flower. She has to do all those things like me. I have to say your backache and headache will go, but I am not about that. This is about something else.
The important thing is, you must become a larger bubble of life. Anyway, you will burst one day. Make it big so that you know the significance of your existence. Every human being must experience that because this is a human privilege that no other creature has. You must make use of that.
