Dhyanalinga Consecration: What Sadhguru Shared with Ashramites After Completion

On 24 June, we celebrate the 22nd anniversary of the Dhyanalinga consecration. A few months after the completion, in October 1999, Sadhguru sat down with ashramites to share some very personal insights into what the process of consecration meant for him, and why Dhyanalinga has the potential to create a global impact.

Sadhguru: Many people have been involved in the creation of Dhyanalinga. It has been many people’s dream. This whole aspect of wanting to make Dhyanalinga happen has made my life very complicated. I would have lived much more beautifully if I had nothing to create. But I do not see it as a burden; there is tremendous beauty to the whole process, but I would have liked to pass it on to someone like you, like my Guru passed it on to me.

If Dhyanalinga was not there, this very life would not have been necessary. Taking on this role would not have happened at all. I am not saying this with any regret. I have enjoyed every bit of what I have done. Personally, I cannot think of a bigger adventure than this. I wish I could put it into words in some way. Every cell in my body is tired – that is all I can say. And when I look at Dhyanalinga, everything is worthwhile.

Dedicating Every Aspect of Life to One Goal

I had to get all these people together – the embodied ones and the disembodied ones – sometimes willingly, sometimes unwillingly. Had I told people right in the beginning what I wanted to do, I am sure no one would have been around me. They slowly got sucked into the whole thing. Willingness and unwillingness depend on people’s level of maturity, growth, understanding, and perception of life.

When their understanding of life is limited, certain things are very important. But when their understanding and perception move to the next level, then something else becomes important. As they grow, as their boundaries expand, and they move towards unboundedness, what is important in their lives keeps changing.

Dhyanalinga is not within time and space. Since it is fully consecrated, if someone is really open to it, it is available to them wherever they are.

For many people, the Dhyanalinga consecration process pushed their logical dimension aside, and they simply accepted the immense power of the situation. Otherwise, many people who think very logically would not have worked for Dhyanalinga. Even now, some people who have known me for many years cannot understand why I created it.

Ready to Live and Die for It

In the process of making it happen, not only my body but also my personality has become so tattered that most of the time, I have to consciously hold it in place. From childhood, we build our personalities in so many ways. What I built from childhood was one kind of person. But when certain things happened to me and I was flooded with memories, I built a different kind of personality for what I wanted to do. Now, it takes some effort to hold that same personality in place.

I do not want dramatic changes in my personality, so as not to become a stranger to people around me, and also for this work to continue. This whole process of consecration has enriched me and destroyed me in so many ways. But I shall not complain, because all of my limbs are still working. I did not even expect that. I was ready for anything that could happen.

How Accessible Is Dhyanalinga Really?

There are a few people in the United States who have not even come here, but they are so connected with Dhyanalinga that for them, it is almost like it is there. It is very beautiful that this is happening.  Dhyanalinga is not within time and space. Since it is fully consecrated, if someone is really open to it, it is available to them wherever they are. People who have never heard or known about it will come in search of it, simply because it touches you in a deep, experiential way.
