The Significance of Kalabhairava [With Ashtakam Chant]
The Significance of Kalabhairava
Kalabhairava Ashtami at the Isha Yoga Centre
Every year, the Ashtami is celebrated with the chanting of Nirvana Shatakam – the exquisite chant written by Adi Shankaracharya over a millennium ago. Special Kalabhairava bhajans are also sung at the Nirkaya Sthanam pond at the Isha Yoga Center in the morning. The Nirkaya Sthanam is a special water body prepared by Sadhguru for use while performing the last rites of the deceased. Later in the day, a special arathi is performed and ellu prasadam (sesame seed prasadam) is distributed. The same program is conducted from 4.30pm to 6pm at the Kayantha Sthanam in Coimbatore. The Kayantha Sthanam is a crematorium operated by Isha Foundation where the significant rituals for the deceased are conducted in keeping with their true essence.
The Significance of Death Rituals
In the last century, certain significant rituals pertaining to the journey beyond have lost the essence that lies at their core. Isha offers these rituals which are conducted in the spirit of a service with a powerful energy basis rather than as a commercial venture. The processes are performed with sensitivity and awareness and can ease the hearts of the family of the deceased.
The Nirkaya Sthanam and Kayantha Sthanam are a part of these processes. Kayantha Sthanam, the crematorium, belongs to the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation and is operated by Isha Foundation. The crematorium maintains two mortuary vehicles which can operate within a radius of 40 km. It also provides services such as tonsure, 16th day karma ceremony, immediate collection of ashes, and hygienic amenities. Another such process, Kalabhairava Karma is available at the Isha Yoga Center for those who wish to make use of it.
