World Health Day is a global campaign by the World Health Organization (WHO) which focuses on a particular health challenge every year. This year, the theme was “Good health adds life to years,” in a commitment to provide better quality of life during the increased life-span that we now enjoy.
Towards this, Isha Foundation conducted a week-long drive from 1st to 7th April, throughout Tamil Nadu to spread health and wellbeing. Special focus was given to the problems faced by elderly such as arthritis, and low vitality. Camps were conducted at colleges, old-age homes, companies and other organizations. The camps and awareness sessions offered a simple yet powerful meditative process called Isha Kriya.
Isha Kriya sessions were conducted for thousands of students in various colleges across Tamil Nadu, including Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, and Govt. Arts & Science College. Isha Kriya sessions were conducted for over 2200 students in various schools and colleges in Trichy District, including MAM College of Engineering and Technology, Indira Gandhi College, Jayaram College of Engineering – Thuraiyur, and Jayendra Higher Secondary School.
Isha Foundation also focused on improving health conditions of the elderly by offering Isha Kriya sessions at old-age homes for nearly 400 senior citizens. Sessions were also conducted for employees of Udaya Semiconductor, Ara Info Tech and Premier Mills. Rural parts of the district were covered, with sessions being offered at Anna Nagar, Athani and Gobi villages. In Chennai, Isha Kriya sessions were conducted at Anna University.
