After a full day of events in Bengaluru, I am thinking that I like the unique flavour of Karnataka that I have unconsciously missed…or so I would entertain myself. I generally don’t have time to miss anything and, if I do have time on me, I am at my best when I am alone so I don’t miss anything. But I have to admit, it is nice to be back in Karnataka, and I look forward to the Bengaluru program.

As I drove towards the Bengaluru airport, which used to be the route to the charmed visits of our ancestral home during my childhood, there are too many fond memories attached to those times. The tree-lined 54km road that we used to drive in our grandfather’s Fiat-Millicent. A new model of Fiat was released every 4 or 5 years and, promptly, he would get his new model with a slightly different radiator grill, or with the turning indicator light located in a different place than the previous model.

And grandfather always bought his new car in a sky-blue colour. In this 54 km drive from Bengaluru, we would cross a maximum of 12 to 15 vehicles (I always counted) and after dark it would be just a groaning truck or two. ‘What a quaint world it was,’ I think as we drive down the now 6-lane road to the airport in a BMW, doing 4 times the speed of my grandfather’s Fiat. The world is getting faster, meaner and more purposeless than ever. Turning and turning in the widening gyre...

In Berlin to address a yoga festival...A band of diehards trying to keep the spiritual traditions of India alive at the risk of being labelled hippies. My heart is with these people. The next day was to be in London, instead I am doing the autobahn at well over 200km/hour for a ‘forced or divine willed’ holiday in Dusseldorf - glad I have carried my golf clubs with me...

Love & Grace
