What Mahashivratri Sadhana Did For Me
Kavya from Bangalore shares her incredible experience of the Mahashivratri Sadhana.
மஹாசிவராத்திரி சாதனாவால் மாறிய என் வாழ்க்கை!
Mahashivratri Sadhana is an opportunity to become receptive to the powerful energies on the auspicious night of Mahashivratri. Kavya, from Bangalore, shares her experience of participating in the sadhana in 2016, and the change it has made in her life.
A few years ago when I got frustrated with my IT job, this soul-searching question arose within me: “I am not happy, why am I in this job?” I quit the job to find out what would really make me happy. I tried different things from photography to being a personal fitness trainer, but nothing seemed to fill the void, until a point came when something within me lamented forlornly, “I need help. God, show me the way!”

Watching a Trending Guru on a News Channel
So there I was, feeling helpless and wanting answers. One day, my husband insisted that I watch Sadhguru’s interview on a news channel, which was trending at the time. I was hesitant to watch as I had “opinions” about gurus, but I thought, “Let me see what a trending guru is like!” As I watched him, I was amazed by how Sadhguru explained complicated topics so easily, and how they all made sense to me for the first time in my life. From that day, watching Sadhguru’s videos became a regular part of my life, and it impacted how I perceived life.
My First Sadhana
One day, I came across the Mahashivratri Sadhana on the Isha website. I intuitively thought, “I must do this no matter what!” even though I hadn’t done any sadhana before. To me, it seemed like the sadhana was a path Sadhguru was asking me to take. With much excitement, I started the process – I woke up at 4 am, which I had never done earlier, and did Shiva Namaskar and chanting, which I never thought I would ever do. After just three days of following the practices, for the first time in my life, I experienced stillness. It was so intense I can’t put it into words. As the days progressed, it became still more intense and blissful.
Mahashivratri: An Experience of the Beyond
On the night of Mahashivratri, with much anticipation, I watched the festivities at the Isha Yoga Center on TV. During the midnight meditation, which Sadhguru was guiding, for the first time in my life, I experienced moments of being beyond the body and mind. It was total bliss. Tears of ecstasy rolled down as the meditation continued, which I had never thought was possible for a “normal” person like me. My eyes were closed and I didn’t want to open them. I was in a state where there was nothing else – just bliss. Even though it lasted for just a few moments, the experience was so profound that I longed to extend it. So I immediately decided to do the Inner Engineering program.
My life was transformed after attending Inner Engineering and I am now doing things that I never thought I was capable of. I am at ease with my life. I can’t thank Sadhguru enough for making such possibilities available to us.
Forever in gratitude,
Kavya BV, Bangalore
