W orld Health Day is a global campaign by the World Health Organization (WHO) which focuses on a particular health challenge every year. This year, the theme was “Good health adds life to years,” in a commitment to provide better quality of life during the increased life-span that we now enjoy.

Towards this, Isha Foundation conducted a week-long drive from 1st to 7th April, throughout Tamil Nadu to spread health and wellbeing. Special focus was given to the problems faced by elderly such as arthritis, and low vitality. Camps were conducted at colleges, old-age homes, companies and other organizations. The camps and awareness sessions offered a simple yet powerful meditative process called Isha Kriya.

The purpose of Isha Kriya is to help an individual get in touch with the source of his existence, to create life according to his own wish and vision. Isha Kriya empowers an individual towards a stress-free way of being, and promotes enhanced clarity and heightened energy levels.
Daily practice of Isha Kriya brings health, dynamism, peace and wellbeing. Also provided as a free guided meditation online (ishakriya.com), Isha Kriya offers the possibility to go beyond limitations and live life to its fullest potential. Through these efforts, Isha Kriya and Isha’s other health sessions reached over 10,000 people in the state.

Isha Kriya sessions were conducted for thousands of students in various colleges across Tamil Nadu, including Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, and Govt. Arts & Science College. Isha Kriya sessions were conducted for over 2200 students in various schools and colleges in Trichy District, including MAM College of Engineering and Technology, Indira Gandhi College, Jayaram College of Engineering – Thuraiyur, and Jayendra Higher Secondary School.

Isha Foundation also focused on improving health conditions of the elderly by offering Isha Kriya sessions at old-age homes for nearly 400 senior citizens. Sessions were also conducted for employees of Udaya Semiconductor, Ara Info Tech and Premier Mills. Rural parts of the district were covered, with sessions being offered at Anna Nagar, Athani and Gobi villages. In Chennai, Isha Kriya sessions were conducted at Anna University. Free Isha Kriya DVDs were also distributed at Marina Beach and Besant Nagar Beach.

The Isha Arogya Center at Salem also conducted an Arthritis Awareness Camp at its premises, as a part of its Arogya Pariksha program. Isha Arogya Center has been conducting Arogya Pariksha Camps since December 2011. The camps are aimed at improving the wellbeing of participants. Special features of the program include presentations on the effectiveness of Siddha and Ayurveda Treatment, Massage Therapies and provide dietary and lifestyle tips. The Isha Arogya Centers at Salem and Chennai, are Isha Foundation’s holistic health centers which offer the wisdom of India’s traditional health sciences.
