The Shivanga sadhana for men is an opportunity to bring forth devotion from within. Shivanga literally means “limb of Shiva,” and the Shivanga sadhana is an opportunity to bring into one’s awareness our connection with the source of creation. The 42-day process includes an initiation into the powerful Shiva Namaskar process, and a pilgrimage to the Kailash of the South, the Velliangiri Mountain.

Velliangiri Mountain, the Kailash of the South, has imbibed the reverberance of innumerable sages and seers including the Adiyogi himself, who walked this Mountain. Those who wish to imbibe these energies can make use of the Shivanga Sadhana, which begins on January 28 and culminates on Mahashivaratri.

Sadhguru tells of his own connection to the Velliangiri mountains, which drew him in his longing to fulfill his Guru’s will.

Sadhguru narrates the story of Punyakshi, the young maiden determined to marry Shiva. The tragic story of their failed love affair also marks the inception of the Velliangiri Mountains as the Kailash of the South.

On December 24, 2011 Sadhguru consecrated the Adiyogi Alayam, a sacred space for self-transformation. The event took place at the Isha Yoga Center in Tamil Nadu, India and was attended by over 10,000 people. During the consecration process, Sadhguru prepared a concoction of king cobra venom and milk as an offering to the linga, but not before ingesting some himself. One participant asks why.
