“The moon has no quality of its own – just reflecting the sun. If you want to know the divine, this is the only way, that you have no quality of your own – you become a reflection. If you become a reflection, what will you reflect? You will only reflect the ultimate.”
Sadhguru
Every emotion, every thought, every aspect and dimension of human experience finds its most deep-seated expression when one sets out on the path of spiritual seeking. The love of the master, the overpowering pain of longing, celebrating his presence, and even dilemma, becomes sweet. “Chandrajeevan” is an attempt to express the same through word and sound. Allow the music to reverberate within, and have a taste of that sweetness.
A compilation of seven songs composed for various occasions at the Isha Yoga Center, the album is Sounds of Isha’s first Hindi set. Pay what you wish and download it. All proceeds will support Isha’s social outreach projects.
Lyrics
Chandrajeevan
A song about how the moon impacts our lives. Created for a moon meditation process during a Pournami Sathsang.
CHANDRAJEEVAN:
Chandrajeevan mera chandrajeevan ||
Shoonya se uTHataa hun main
poorNataa ke path chala
Kabhi baDHataa kabhi ghaTataa
chand si meri kalaa ||
Poornima ko hai damakataa
oja mera jhar rahaa
Guru ki jyoti hai keval
Isa liye to dikh rahaa ||
Amavas ki kalima mein
bhi kahin main chhup raha
Shiv ki Kaali jaTaa mein tum
DHoonDHlo jo dikh rahaa ||
Naye Chandra mein janma letaa
har amaavas hun maraa
Beech mein yeh meraa jeevan
kuchh hai khaali, kuchh bharaa ||
CHANDRAJEEVAN:
My life is a cycle of the moon.
I arise out of emptiness, and tread the path to fullness.
At times I swell, at others I shrink: lunar is my art.
On full moon nights my brilliance radiates,
And yet without the Guru’s radiance I would be invisible
Even in the darkness of the new moon night, I lurk –
Search and you’ll find me in the inky matted locks of Shiva.
I am born with every full moon, I die with the new.
Between these two moons flows my life—
Just a little empty, just a little full.
Laage Re
Based on a four-line poem by Hamid al-Din Kirmani. Also written for Sadhguru’s welcome back sathsang.
LAAGE RE:
Laage re laage mane laage re,
thaara ishq kyun aasaan?
Sochu main paaun tera sang re,
bas chand palon ki yeh baat ||
Par jaanaa maine, teraa ishq ye,
jaise ek saagar gehraa |
LooT gai main teri ek leher mein,
phans gai jaise ke bhanwara ||
LAAGE RE:
I thought that the way of your love was easy, and I will reach the union with speed,
Later found that the way is an ocean
I took a step in the ocean
And the wave swept me away
Dedo Prabhu
DEDO PRABHU:
De do prabhu mujh ko varadaan
AshTasiddhi kar do pradaan |
Para siddhi kaisi hogi yeh
Pehele sun lo dayaa nidhaan ||
ANimaa ho nija ahankaar
Mahimaa guru ki ho apaar |
Laghimaa meri ichchhaayein
Garimaa guru prati ho aabhaar ||
Praapti ho guru charaNon ki
Praakaamya guru ki bhakti |
Vaasanaayein jab bhi ubharein
Vashitva ho una ki Shakti ||
Siddhi aaTHavi rehe gayi hai
Vaha to mujha ko mil gayi hai |
Ishatva kaa karungi kyaa
sadhguru chhavi sara chaDHa gayi hai ||
DEDO PRABHU:
My Lord, grant me a boon:
Bless me with the eight mystic attainments
But wait, O Compassionate one!
First hear what these attainments should be.
May my ego grow infinitesimal
My Master’s grace abundant
May my desires turn weightless
And my gratitude deepen immeasurably
May I have unlimited access to the Master’s feet
And my devotion overflow
When old compulsions surface
May I no longer be slave to their power
Now all that’s left is the eighth
But wait, it is already found!
What do I gain by asking for absolute lordship
When I am already possessed by the splendour of Sadhguru?
Kya Karun
A devotee’s dilemma about whether to follow the spiritual path. Created during the first English mahasathsang at the Isha Yoga Center, inspired by a question asked by one of the participants.
KYA KARUN:
Kyaa karun kyaa naa karun, ye aapadaa harbaar hai
Ek taraf hai ghar mera, ek taraf guru ka dwaar hai ||
Ghar mein mere hai pitaa, maataa hai bandhu aur sakhaa
Par guru ke charaN mein hi, ji meraa harbaar hai
Ek taraf hai ghar meraa, ek taraf guru kaa dwaar hai ||
Ji kare mera, yahin par main jiyun, yahin marun
Maa ke aansu par bulaate, kaisi ye manjhadhaar hai
Ek taraf hai ghar mera, ek taraf guru ka dwaar hai ||
Keh kavi are mudhamat kyun hai tu yun uljha rahaa
Jab guru hai tere sang, tab kyaa hai ghar kyaa baar hai
Har taraf guru kaa hi ghar, har taraf guru kaa dwaar hai ||
KYA KARUN:
‘What should I do and what should I not?’
This is the dilemma, every seeker’s lot
‘Here is home, but there where my Guru’s resides.
Here is where my family and friends live
But it is at my Guru’s feet that my heart abides.
I long to live and die here
But am pulled back by my mother’s tears
And I am now stuck midstream
Assailed by a tempest of fears.’
The poet says, ‘Fool, why this anguish?
Whatever your road
Everywhere around you
Is the Guru’s abode.
Once He is with you,
It matters not where you roam.
Everywhere will you find the door
To your Master’s home.’
Aye Hain Saavare
A song of welcome, written for Sadhguru’s return to the ashram on his birthday, after six-month visit to the United States.
AYE HAIN SAAVARE:
Aye hain saanvare, o mere gaaon re
Mili ek thaanv re, na jaao saanvare
Aasmaan phool barasaao, hawaaon itr failao
Apni palaken bichhaa karke, dharaa tum mangal to gaao
Pakharoon charaNa kamalon ko, main apne bheege nainon se
Charnaamrut paan karake, dhara tum dhanya ho jaao
Nishaa tum komal haston se, inhe kaajal lagaa dena,
Shashi in bhavya bhaalon pe chandan tilak sajaa denaa
Mukhadaa yah tejomandit hairavi tu na sharamaanaa
Ina se jaan lenaa tum nabh mein apnaa thikaana
AYE HAIN SAAVARE:
He has arrived in my village
And I have found my refuge.
Promise, O Dark One, never to desert me again.
Sky, unleash your deluge of flowers,
Winds, scatter this perfume everywhere,
Four Directions, unfurl your welcome and burst into auspicious song.
As I wash his feet with my tears,
Earth, consume this nectar and attain to immortal life.
Night, with your soft fingers, anoint his eyes with kohl.
Moon, mark his resplendent forehead with sandal paste and vermilion.
How radiant is his face! Come now, Sun, cast aside your diffidence.
Go ask him to show you your place in the sky.
Indradanush
An exuberant song about the colors of Creation, but also of how Darkness is the all-pervading Reality.
INDRADANUSH:
Lal peelaa haraa neelaa boond boond rang barasaa ||
Laal bhor hai laal sandhyaa
lajjaa mein bhi laali ||
Neelaa saagar neelaa ambar
neeli tujhse judaai ||
Sunaheraa suraj suneheri dhoop,
suneheraa tujh sang har pal ||
Hari hai hariyali dekho
hari har khushahaali ||
Rango ki maayaa dekh kaalaa andheraa muskuraayaa
Rangeen doston jaan lo tum kaalaa hai har saayaa
Main hun aadi main hi ant hun
poorN hun aur shoonya bhi hun |
Laal peelaa haraa neelaa, har rang mujhmein samaayaa ||
INDRADANUSH:
The rainbow shot an arrow, and spilled its palette upon the earth.
Red, yellow, green, blue, drop by drop, the colours poured.
Red is the color of dawn and dusk, red the colour of a blush.
Blue is the ocean, blue the sky, blue is separation from You.
Gold is the sun, gold is sunlight, and gold every moment spent with You.
Green is this verdant landscape, green too is prosperity.
Looking at this chimera of colour, Darkness smiled,
‘O comrades of colour,
This you must know —
Black is the hue
Of every shadow.
Beginning and End am I.
Fullness and Emptiness too.
Each and every colour dissolves only into me —
Red, yellow, green, blue.’
Mere Rabbaa
A Sufi-style devotional song.
RISING / MERE RABBAA:
Mere rabbaa, mere huzoor
Mere karam, mein teri zuroor
Mere saahib, mere allaah,
Mere naseeb, mere maulaa ||
Mere khudaa, yaa paravardigaar
Tujh mein basi yeh jaan
Tujhi pe nisaar ||
