Project GreenHands formally launched its planting season for 2013 on World Environment Day, with the Mayor of Chennai, Mr. Saidai Duraisamy planting the first sapling. PGH’s target this year is nearly double last year’s target (which PGH met and exceeded!), and is set at an ambitious 4 million saplings, which will add to the 17 million saplings planted since PGH’s inception. Nearly 14,000 saplings were distributed to 9000 concerned citizens in 25 places across Tamil Nadu, as a part of the World Environment Day celebrations.

PGH has also tied up with corporate sponsors, including L&T Construction, Chennai and international partner Yves Rocher Foundation, France to plant trees across Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. L&T Chennai has been associated with PGH since 2009 where as part of their CSR activity, company employees establish a corporate nursery and raised 200,000 saplings, which have been given free to school children across many districts, institutions and neighborhoods.

The Yves Rocher Group is the world’s leading brand in botanical cosmetics, and stands for life in harmony with nature as a basis for human wellbeing. In preparation for the celebration of its 50th anniversary in 2014, the Yves Rocher Group has declared its commitment to plant 50 million trees in various regions across the globe, of which 15 million will be planted in collaboration with Project GreenHands.
