Sounds of Isha released a new song, “Kal Kal” on the occasion of Diwali. Caught between yesterday and tomorrow, this song conveys how we should not be thinking about life, but living life.

Sadhguru has often said “Most of the time you are thinking about life, not living life”. How very true! We spend more time thinking about yesterday or worrying about tomorrow. The hindi word “kal” refers to both tomorrow and yesterday – probably equating them as they are both non-existential, given that our experience of life is only the moment that we are in right now. However, the “kal” is where our mind seems to spend a considerable amount of time. If only we could be constantly aware that this moment is the only reality, we could live our life fully. It would be a celebration of being alive. This song very beautifully captures this sentiment playing with the hindi word “kal” to accentuate the plight of the mind caught between the fictitious kal’s. We could tell you more about the song, but you will have to wait till… tomorrow ;)!

Kal jis ko kal kehta tha
Kal ko kal ban jaye re
Pal kal kal behe jaye re

What you called tomorrow, yesterday
Tomorrow, it will become yesterday!
Each moment is ticking away

Is pal ko tu bala de de
Kal mat kehna haaye re

Empower this moment,
so that you don’t lament tomorrow

(pal kal kal…)

Each moment is ticking away.

Kal kal ki yaadein teri
Is pal ka bas saaya hain

Your memories of the past,
are just the shadows of this moment

Kal kal ki baatein teri
Tere man ki maya hai

Your impressions of the past
are just illusions of your mind.

Bas is pal ko tu jeeley
Pal kal kal pe chhaaye re

Just live this moment totally,
This moment will overshadow
yesterdays and tomorrows

(pal kal kal… )

Each moment is ticking away.

Kal man bekal hota tha
Par kal tak tab sota tha

Yesterday your mind was restless,
but you were unconscious then

Ab man bekal hota hai
Kaahe ko tu sota hai

Even now your mind is restless,
why are you still asleep?

Yeh chhala tyaj tu pal jeeley
Aaj ko kal aa jaye re

Drop this deception and live this moment,
And Tomorrow will anyway flow into this moment

(pal kal kal …)

Each moment is ticking away.
