World Health Day is celebrated every year on the 7th of April, under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO). Various government and non-government organizations come together on this day to raise awareness on public health issues through activities and the media. Here on the Isha Blog, we’d like to revisit a few significant posts where important information related to human health and wellbeing were covered.

In one of our very first articles on the subject, Health is Life’s Way, we took a look at how one could keep their general health and fitness at an optimal level. And the easiest way according to Sadhguru is to simply “use the body.” “If you do that sufficiently,” he says, “the body has every means to create health for itself. I would say that if we used our body as much as we should, approximately 80% of the ailments on this planet would just disappear.”

This includes high blood pressure, which is the theme for this year’s World Health Day. High blood pressure or Hypertension is a common, chronic ailment where the blood pressure in the arteries is elevated, requiring the heart to work harder than normal to circulate blood through the blood vessels.. Yoga certainly helps one get healthy but as Sadhguru says, health is only a side-effect of the true purpose of practicing yoga. Health is not always about the body. Sound mental health is just as important. And depression is one illness related to the mind that many people suffer from today. In An Insight into Depression, Sadhguru says that for most people, except those who are pathologically ill, depression can be tackled by setting incentives for health and not for illness.
