Pongal

Sadhguru kicked off the Pongal celebration at the ashram with some words about the history of Pongal, a popular harvest festival in Tamil Nadu. Pongal falls in mid-January every year and marks the auspicious beginning of Uttarayana – the northward journey of the sun. It signals the end of the harvest season and offers a special thanksgiving to the sun, earth and cattle. Isha Home School and Samskriti children performed traditional dances to the crowds of visitors and meditators attending the celebration, and food was served for all in the Mahashivratri grounds, including sugar cane which is one of the traditional offerings.

Inner Way

Sadhguru’s first Inner Way program of 2011 took place from January 12-16 with over 111 participants from all over India and different parts of the world. Participants were overjoyed with the program, which included discourses and Q&As with Sadhguru, treks to neighboring villages, Rejuvenation treatments and entertainment by the glorious drums and dances of tribal entertainers. Many participants shared how deeply touched they were by the program, one saying that he had lived more intensely and joyfully in these four days then in the last 40 years.

Prithvi Prema Seva

Every 15 days, ashram residents and volunteers take part in gardening activities, such as preparing saplings and weeding. This is to remind us that we are indeed connected with the earth. As Sadhguru has said, “You are just a small extension of the earth, nothing more, nothing less. You may have all kinds of ideas about yourself but that is a reality.”

Linga Bhairavi Procession

To commemerate the celebration of Pongal and the end of Margali, Linga Bhairavi processions were held in front of the Dhyanalinga Temple on January 16 and 17, wowing the crowd with fire dances, hundreds of flaming candles and music.
