As a prelude to the Isha Gramotsavam finale, division-level matches and curtain-raiser celebrations will take place on Aug 21st in 10 locations.

Isha Gramotsavam is almost here!

A joyful celebration of village life, Isha Gramotsavam showcases the essence of rural Tamil Nadu through an elaborate display of rural games, art, drama, dance, music and food. September 4th, 2016, will mark the grand finale of the state-wide inter-village sports tournament, featuring the final matches of volleyball for men and throwball for women in Coimbatore, CODISSIA Grounds.

Divisional Curtain-Raiser Celebrations: Aug 21st – You’re Invited!

As a prelude to this finale event, we’d like to invite you and your family to a special day of fun, games and exciting competition, a celebration of the Sporting Spirit of rural India! These curtain-raiser celebrations will take place in 10 locations: Tiruvannamalai, Rajapalayam, Karur, Mettur, Erode, Trichy, Tirunelveli, Alandurai-Coimbatore, Virudhachalam, and Tirupattur. At each of these divisional-level events, 8 village-level volleyball and throwball teams will compete for the Divisional Winners and Runners-Up positions.

  • Cheer on your local teams as they vie for a chance to compete at the Gramotsavam finale!
  • Join in the fun of the Rural Games – all are welcome to compete in these traditional games , including Uriyadi (breaking the pot), Valukku Maram (greased pole climbing), tug-of-war, 3-legged races and much more!
  • Savor a delicious taste of village culture with the Rural Food Festival!
  • Enjoy a variety of folk art performances celebrating the ancient traditions of Tamil Nadu!

The Isha Gramotsavam tournament is an opportunity for every villager – man or woman, young or old, irrespective of caste or creed – to revel in the joy of the game and the spirit of competition and collaboration. Isha Gramotsavam is part of Action for Rural Rejuvenation (ARR), a rural revitalization program under the aegis of Isha Foundation. ARR provides a comprehensive approach to improved health, livelihood and community revitalization, and to date has reached over 4600 villages and forty-two lakh people.
